Charlsie “Ann” Riley, 84, of Ventura, CA passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday May 1st
in Ventura, CA. Ann was born on March 31, 1938 in Oxford, MS to Harold and Gladys Lawhorn.
Ann’s family moved to Long Beach, CA after World War II and eventually to Santa Paula. She
attended Santa Paula High School, graduating in 1956 and continued her education at Ventura
College, where she met her husband of over 50 years, Charles “Bud” Riley. Ann was a librarian
for Briggs Elementary School and later owned and operated a flower shop in Agoura Hills. She
enjoyed gardening, traveling, literature, playing Bunco, and spending time with her family. Ann
had a love for cats as well. She enjoyed participating in her children’s school and extracurricular
activities. Another of her interests was bible study and the church, where she served as a Deacon
at Monte Vista Presbyterian Church in Newbury Park. She is survived by her two sons and
daughters-in-law, Doug (Frances) and Brian (Leslie); her grandchildren and their wives, Thomas
(Heather), John (Bae), Sean, and Austin (Bekah); and her great-grandchildren Woodruff, Grace,
Jane, and Mila. She is preceded in death by her husband Bud, son Charles, daughter LeAnn, and
sister Wanda Conley. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Ann’s name to
Ventura County Rescue Mission, 315 North A Street, Oxnard, CA 93030. The family wishes to
extend their heartfelt gratitude to Rebecca Espinosa, who took such wonderful care of Ann over
the past few months. Funeral Services will be held at Monte Vista Presbyterian Church, 3797
Lynn Rd, Newbury Park at 2:00pm on Thursday May 26th with Pastor Tom Stephen officiating.
