Joao D. Cardoso, 74, of Acushnet, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, May 4, 2022. He was the husband of Evelina Salgueiro.
Born in Lisbon, Portugal, he was the son of the late Antonio and Deolinda (deJesus) Cardoso. Joao moved to America when he was 17 years old and lived in New Bedford and Acushnet most of his life.
Joao was a hard worker who owned J+C Lounge in New Bedford. Outside of the Lounge he worked in construction for many years. He loved spending time with his family, working in his garden, and playing soccer.
Survivors include his wife Evelina; his children, Debbie Rego and her husband Roy, Michelle Coutinho and her husband Armindo, Jonathan Cardoso and his wife Lindsay, Christopher Cardoso and his wife Heather, and Joao Cardoso, Jr. and his wife Titi; a step-daughter Missy Cimbron and her husband Arthur; his siblings, Fernanda Abreu and her husband Antonio, Joe Cardoso and his wife Berther, Arminda DaCoinceio and her husband Serafim, Adrian Cardoso and his wife Rachel, Isabel DaSilva amd her husband Fernando, and Cue Cardoso and her husband Dr. B; his grandchildren, Ava Mae, Frankie, Alannah, Kyle, Savannah, Sydney, Nathan, Mackenzie, Adryana, Christian, and John, Jr.; a great-grandchild Alaya; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He is predeceased by his siblings, Carlos Cardoso and Natalia DaSilva; and his stepson Frankie Pereira.
His visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 10th from 8 to 9:30 am at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church in Fairhaven at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Masks will be required to enter the services.
