Mary A. O'Neill, of Medford, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at the Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln following a short illness. She was 77. Maura, as she was affectionately known to her family and friends, was the beloved wife of Daniel O' Neill and together they shared 52 years of marriage. Born in Culleen Carna, Gallway, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late Coleman and Penelope (Connolly) Lydon.
Maura came to the United States in 1967 and first settled in Somerville for nearly ten years and then moved to Medford where she made her home and has been a resident ever since. Maura worked for many years as a dedicated nurse, first with the Visiting Nurses of Arlington and most recently at the Gables of Winchester for the past twenty years. First and foremost, Maura was a proud and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, always front and center supporting her children and grandchildren in all their activities whether at the sporting fields or traveling around for Irish Step dancing shows and competitions. Maura was happiest when she was surrounded by family and those she loved. She enjoyed cooking, crochet and knitting. She always looked forward family vacations in New Hampshire, taking cruises on the Mt. Washington on Lake Winnipesaukee, and over the years enjoyed traveling back to Ireland to visit with family. Maura was extremely proud of her Irish heritage and for many years along with her husband they were very active with the Gaelic Athletic Association and the Cork Hurling Club, where she volunteered as the Association and Club Secretary.
In addition to her beloved husband, Maura is survived by her devoted children; Daniel J. O'Neill and his wife Kathleen of Medford, Jennifer (O’Neill) Reale and her husband Richard Jr. of Newton. She was the loving grandmother of Evan and Coleman O'Neill, Richard III and Penelope Reale. She was the cherished sister of Breege Boland, Barbara O'Sullivan, Johnny Lydon and Kathleen Lyons all of Ireland. She is further survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
