Mother, sister, aunt and friend, Susan Fencer-Cote’s life did not end with her death. On April 30th, Susan, aged 62, passed away, finally finding peace after her battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
A social worker for over 20 years, Susan took pride in supporting her patients and their families navigating the end of their lives. Prior to obtaining her Master’s in Social Work, Susan worked at the Veterans Association of Vermont for 13 years as a psychiatric nurse. Helping others was always at the forefront of everything that Susan did.
Her zest for life was unmatched: Susan found humour in moments of difficulty, and light in moments of darkness. She had an uncanny ability to create happiness in her daily activities, most notably cooking, baking, days spent by the ocean, picking out from her collection of earrings, and in her spontaneous travels.
Susan is survived by her daughter Carly Cote, her sister Regina O’Shea and her husband Alfie O’Shea, her brother Rick Fencer and his wife Anne Fencer, and many nieces, nephews and friends, who over the years became family.
In lieu of flowers, kindly please make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.
To celebrate Susan’s life, please enjoy a glass of her favourite: Chardonnay and, of course, as Susan would want, always order dessert.
