In Providence, RI. Lloyd H. Turoff, 96 of Seekonk, MA passed away peacefully with family by his side on Wednesday, April 27, 2022. Lloyd was born on June 17, 1925 in Providence, RI to the late Henry and Ruth (Polinoff) Turoff. Lloyd was a 1947 graduate of MIT where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He completed his degree after taking a leave of absence in 1944 when he joined the Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. O’Brien (DD725) in the Pacific during WWII.
Upon graduating from MIT, Lloyd was a practicing architect and engineer for 28 years. After closing his office, he purchased Park View Nursing Home and was the administrator there for 14 years, before retirement.
Lloyd was an avid boater and was a Charter Boat Captain for 8 years where he spent time on the open seas taking groups out for fishing excursions in his privately owned vessel. He also served as a board member of the Providence Boy’s Club for 22 years and was a volunteer court appointed special advocate in the Rhode Island family court. Lloyd was a member of the Rhode Island Board of Registration and Exam of Architects and was the past President of the Rhode Island Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Lloyd was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan and enjoyed cheering them on through the ups and downs of every season!
Lloyd was predeceased by his beloved partner Thelma Turoff in 2021 and his sister Eleanor Radin. He is survived by his four children; Neal Turoff, John Turoff, Karen and her husband Christopher Knowles, and Lynn and her husband Thomas Clifford Jr., as well as 7 grandchildren; Jason Turoff, Brie Mueller, Rusty Knowles, Read Knowles, Brooke Clifford, Becca Clifford, and Matt Clifford along with 11 great-grandchildren.
A private Graveside service was held at Forest Chapel Cemetery in Barrington, RI.
