Gloria Gladys (Gibbons) Heggie, born in Boston on October 07, 1929, to the late Edward Loften Gibbons and the late Glady Constance Myrtle Richardson, passed away peacefully in Stoughton on April 26, 2022. She was one of 3 children and grew up in Bermuda. She was pro-deceased by her older brother, Melvin and her younger sister,
Gloria was raised on St, David's Island in Bermuda in her early years, attended Worthland Elementary and graduated from Beckley Institute, one of the most prestigious high schools in Bermuda She was eagerly engaged in her studies and enjoyed reading Shakespearean plays and dramas She studied classical music on the piano and played for Sunday School. Growing up, Gloria was thought of as the rebel of the Family. At age 17, Gloria and most black youths on the island boycotted theaters and restaurants because of racial and class discrimination. She would remain passionate about liberation for Black people throughout her life.
Gloria met and married Kenneth Heggie in September,1953. From union they had three children together: Kenneth Irving Heggie, Jr 'deceased); Edward Loften Heggie (deceased) and Karen Renee Bowie.
Gloria leaves to cherish her memories: her daughter, Karen Renee Bowie, son-in-law Robert Bowie; her grandchildren: Tayjsa Allen, Tanya Everett Heggie, Sarahee Bowie, Shakima Bowie, Justin Heggie and Jesse Everett-Limeropolous her grandchildren, E'moni Thomas, Lon Thomas, and Jace Booth; her great-great grandchild, Kye’laya Kimble and many relatives and friends in Boston and Bermuda.
Gloria modeled for her family how to overcome hardship and how to find purpose in life and living. She will be remembered as strong, noised, loving, independent and one of a kind.
Family and friends are invited to attend viewing hours on Friday May 6, 2022 from 10-11 AM followed by a Religious Service from 11-12 PM in the Joseph Russo Funeral Home, 814 American Legion Highway Roslindale, Ma. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, 427 Cummins Highway, Roslindale, Ma.
