Melvin J. Young, 80, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at his residence.
Graveside services will be held 4 PM, Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Mystic Cemetery, in Mystic, Georgia, with the Rev. Ike Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Young was born May 2, 1941, in Fitzgerald, Georgia. He was raised by the late J.P & Mattie Lou Phillips Young. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy and Army during the Vietnam War era. Mr. Young was a disabled veteran and a former truck driver. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Jewel “Pat” Young, of Fitzgerald; children: Sylvia Mastromarco, Stacey Young and Melvin Young, Jr., all of Pennsylvania, Joe Scott and James Scott of Yulee, Florida, Nick Scott of Fitzgerald and Bill Scott of Yulee, Florida; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; a brother, Marvin & Lisa Young of Tifton and a sister, Joann Grantham of Tifton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 sisters and 4 brothers.
