Maurer, Alfred Leo of Ormond Beach, FL (formerly of Dover, MA) passed peacefully on Saturday April 23rd, 2022. Alfred was born on August 27th, 1938 to Edward L. Maurer and Eleanor (Bruni) Maurer. Beloved husband of Maria D’Innocenzo Maurer, and formerly the late Marilyn J. (Leombruno) Maurer. Devoted and loving father of the late Alfred L. Maurer II, Cheryl L. Maurer of Needham, Charles E. Maurer and wife Erika of Hopkinton, Peter M. Maurer and wife Amy of Danvers, Jacob C. Maurer and partner Andrew of Norwalk, CT.
Loving grandfather of Matthew Reardon, Lizzie Rider, Jake Benson, Thomas Maurer, Benjamin Maurer, Sydney Maurer, Ellie Maurer, Samuel Maurer, Emma Maurer, and Oliva Maurer.
Loving brother of Robert Maurer and wife Mary Lou, Anne Hogan and late husband Joseph, Joan Maurer, Mary Talmo and husband Paul, Edward Maurer and Kathy McGill, John Maurer and wife Michelle, Joseph Maurer and wife Lisa, and Eleanor Evans and late husband Barry.
Born in Watertown Alfred was a graduate of Watertown High School class of 1956. He was a veteran who served in the US Army Reserves until 1967, followed by a long and distinguished career in Mechanical Contracting. Alfred was President of Maurer & Sforza, Inc for over 30 years and his company completed many large projects throughout New England. Throughout his career he was instrumental in the training and development of generations of tradesmen.
Al had a passion for antique automobiles and enjoyed participation in numerous car clubs, including Ty-Rods, National Woodie Club, and National Antique Oldsmobile Club. He was a gifted restorationist of several cars and received awards for his work. But more than anything this led to lifelong friendships, which he very much cherished.
Above all Alfred had a love of family that was most important to him. In his later years he especially appreciated time spent with his grandchildren.
Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Ave. Needham on Wednesday, May 4, at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, Needham at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 3, from 4-7pm. Interment private.
