Obituary

Daniel Alicea Sr. was born to the late Laura Margarita Nieves, and Joaquin Alicea in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. He was raised in Boston, MA. Although, he never forgot his roots and the rhythms of Salsa music. He was a lover of movies and sports. He enjoyed vacations in Vermont. He was a strong but kind hearted man that wouldn't hesitate to help another. He would push through any obstacles in his way without ever letting it change his calm and caring demeanor. He seemed fearless in life because he would give anything and everything for those that he loved. He knew this rare type of love would always be reciprocated by those with hearts that he touched. Most may know him as "Papa," and that is rightfully so because he was honestly a father to so many people in need of a father`s love. Those that are friends, know that they were never treated as such because they were considered to be family to him. Therefore, he was blessed in his life to have a large and loving family.

We cannot simply say that he was an employee of Marksdale Gardens in Dorchester, MA. Since he was truly a rock, for this small tight-knit community for over 30 years. He took much pride in his work and collection of tools. However, what kept him strong was the strength in the bonds between friendships that he gained at Marksdale. He was always given a warm welcome into any tenant's home. He wasn't a provider. He was a friend, or considered to be a family member to many tenants. He was often offered a glass of water, a midday snack, or uplifting words anytime he would tire. And there is not one person who wouldn't enjoy the stories he would so often share. Throughout the years at Marksdale, he worked closely under Minnie Clark. Over the years they formed an everlasting bond. The admiration shared between each other was genuine. They supported and encouraged each other to continue until the end.

"Papa" married the love of his life, Maria Alicea. They were inseparable ever since they met in 1977. With over 40 years of marriage, they built a family home with doors that would constantly open and close. Their wedding vows were honored, with only death being what separated them. His wife took comfort in always knowing that any day he could be called upon as an angel somewhere else. April 23, 2022 was when Papa left in peace, knowing that he had loved and lived. "Papa," is survived by his wife, Maria Alicea; daughters Christina and Rosamaria; son Daniel Jr.; grandchildren Rene And Giovanni; sister Wanda; and brother Jimmy; nephew and nieces. His family was with him until the end.
