James P. Farney, Sr., 84, of Fairhaven, died peacefully on Saturday, April 23, 2022. He was the husband of the late Eva S. (Tollefsen) Farney.
Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, he lived in Fairhaven most of his life. He was the son of the late Donald and Verna (Smith) Farney.
He enjoyed freshwater fishing, cooking, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
James worked as a scalloper on New Bedford and Fairhaven fishing boats. He served proudly in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his children, Kathleen Lima of New Bedford, James Farney, Jr. and his wife Deborah of Dartmouth, De Anna Stykowski and her husband Joseph of New Bedford, Margaret Grant and her husband Jeremy of New Bedford, Andrew Farney of California, and John Farney of California; his grandchildren, Dylan Farney, Jamie Farney, Barry Lima, Jr., Bryen Lima, Christina Farney, Justine Farney, and Connor Farney; and 3 great-grandchildren, Devin Lima, Kahleel Jorge, and Anna Simas.
He is predeceased by his son-in-law Barry Lima, daughter-in-law Lisa Farney; and grandchild Joshua Farney.
A memorial service will be held at the First Church of the Nazerene, 764 Hathaway Rd., New Bedford on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at 11 AM.
