Joseph A. Greene 79, formerly a long-time resident of Abington, died Saturday April 23 after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of fifty-five years to Patricia (Flaherty) Greene.
Born in Dorchester, he was the son of the late Victor and Anna (Smith) Greene and was a graduate of English High School in Boston.
He was very proud to have served his country in the United States Coast Guard, after which he became an employee of the New England Telephone Company for over forty years.
Prior to their recent move to Rockland, the Greene’s had been residents of Abington for over fifty years.
In addition to his wife Patricia, he was the loving father of Julie and Michael Murphy and Jennifer and Gary Shanahan. Proud “Beepa” to Erin, Neil, Dara and Ryan. Joe was predeceased by his brothers, Victor Jr., Jack and Donald.
Joe was also blessed with a large extended family of many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins and in-laws.
Family and friends are invited to attend his funeral Mass on Thursday April 28 at 10:30 AM in the Saint Bridget Church, 455 Plymouth Street, Abington. Burial will be held at a later date. By request of the family visiting hours are omitted.
