Obituary

Norman Medeiros, 80, of New Bedford passed away on Tuesday April 19, 2022 after a brief illness. He was the husband of Linda Anne (Cory) Adriano Medeiros, to whom he was married for 39 years.

Born in New Bedford on January 9, 1942, the son of late Miguel I. and Cecelia (Vieira) Medeiros, he lived here all his life. He was a graduate of New Bedford High School and Bristol Community College.

Mr. Medeiros served in the United States Air Force and subsequently worked for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in New Bedford until November of 1970, when he joined the city police force. He served as a Police Officer for the City of New Bedford for 31 years and 7 months, retiring in July of 2002.

Mr. Medeiros was a Past President of the South End Youth Athletic Association and served the organization in numerous capacities during the 70's and 80's. He also was a long-time member of the American Legion Post One, the Washington Club, the American Portuguese War Veterans Association, and the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Senior Citizens Club.

Mr. Medeiros enjoyed playing sports when growing up and also watching all sports, especially the Patriots and Red Sox. He also enjoyed traveling and visiting with his kids and grandchildren.

He is survived by his widow, Linda; three children, Michael N. Medeiros and his wife Patty, Cheryl A. Medeiros, and Mark C. Medeiros, all of New Bedford; four grandchildren, Michael C. Medeiros and his wife Christine and their children, Carl, Leland and Mallory, of Georgia, Nicklaus C. Medeiros and his partner Melissa and their son Greyson of New Bedford, Ryan C. Medeiros of New Bedford, and Brendan Manning of Rochester; his siblings, Leroy Medeiros and Shirley A. Sylvia, both of New Bedford; his stepdaughter, Darci-Lynn Davis and her husband Josh of Florida; two step-grandsons, Kyle Joshua Davis and Quinn Emerson Davis, of Florida; and several nieces and nephews and cousins.

He was the stepfather of the late Manuel M. Adriano, Jr.

In accordance with Norman's wishes, a private funeral service was held on Friday at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial with military honors followed in St. John's Cemetery. For online condolence book, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
