Doreen Pearl (Nichols) Andersen, 86, of Hudson, died Monday, May 1, 2006, at Beaumont of Northboro Nursing Home in Northboro, MA. She was the wife of the late Vincent W. Andersen for sixty years until he died in 2004. Doreen was born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia daughter of the late Ralph and Dorothy (Hatfield) Nichols. She spent her formative years in Needham, MA graduating from Needham H.S. During WWII she attended business courses at Bentley College and was employed by the Carter Co. in Needham, MA. After marriage she lived in Southboro and then Framingham where she was an active member of the former Park Street Baptist Church and volunteered as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader. After fourteen years she moved to Marshfield where she and her husband continued to be involved with church activities at the Scituate Baptist Church, one of which was the happy times spent with friends as members of the Couples Club. She was employed by Merchant’s Bank in Marshfield for many years and assisted her husband in his upholstery business by tending to the bookkeeping. Doreen and her husband retired to Madison, NH where they once again became integral members of the local Madison Baptist Church where she was a member of the Philathia Club and volunteered as a Sunday school teacher and at the local food pantry.
She was the beloved mother of; Bonnie Flood and her husband Bernie of Hudson, Eric Karl Andersen and wife Barbara of West Newbury, Nels Andersen and wife Jennie of Duxbury and Roy Vincent Andersen and wife Linda of Madison, NH. She is also survived by two sisters; Polly Powell of Pemaquid Point, ME, Lila Hubbel of Vermillion, SD, eleven grandchildren and one great grandson.
Funeral services will be held from the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home Inc., (www.tighehamilton.com) 50 Central St, Hudson, MA 01749 Thursday, May 4, 2006 with a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. in the First Federated Church, Central Street, Hudson, officiated by the Reverend Sean Dunker-Bendigo. Calling hours will be Wednesday, May 3, 2006 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Burial will be in Forestvale Cemetery, Hudson, MA.
