Wallace Sanders Gibbs, 97, of Tifton passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 2022, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton’s First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Wayne Roe officiating. Mr. Gibbs will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 23, 2022, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton’s First Baptist Church from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service.
Grant Gibbs, Jon Gibbs, Graham Gibbs, Jack O’Neil, Hubert Massey, Van Belflower, Phillip Belflower and Mike Smith will serve as pallbearers.
Born January 20, 1925, in Tift County, Mr. Gibbs was the son of the late Ollie Edgar Gibbs and Caroline May Love Gibbs. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Sara Frances Howell Gibbs, who passed away August 23, 2021; one infant son, Steven Sanders Gibbs; three brothers, Ollie Edgar Gibbs Jr., Lawrence Gibbs and Vernon Gibbs; and four sisters, Garland Ryan, Gwen Reeves, Sarah May Boush and Faye Jones. He was a retired farmer and a member of Tifton’s First Baptist Church. He was a member of the Merchant Marines in World War II and he was a member of the Masons.
Mr. Gibbs is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Michael Wallace Gibbs of Tifton and Dr. Chris and Melissa Gibbs of Augusta; one sister, June Gibbs Wiggins of Tifton; and five grandchildren and their spouses, Grant Sanders Gibbs and his wife Morgan, Caroline Gibbs O’Neil and her husband Jack, Jon Christopher Gibbs Jr., Isabelle Graham Gibbs and Graham Sanders Gibbs.
