Edwin “Derrick” Orlando, 52, of Middleburg, Florida passed away on the 18th of April 2022. A graveside funeral service will be held for Derrick at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 24, 2022, at Oak Ridge Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest. The Rev. Kenny Kicklighter will officiate. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 24, 2022, from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Derrick was born on November 10, 1969, to Louis Edwin and Sandra Ann Orlando of Fort Benning, Georgia. Derrick is survived by his love of over 11 years, Anna Levo and her family; brother Jared and wife, Jennifer; his mother, Sandra Orlando; aunts, cousins, and dear friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Louis Edwin Orlando.
After graduating from Crestwood High School of Dunwoody Georgia in 1988, Derrick obtained a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Georgia, while he also worked with IBM and Apple. Later in his life, Derrick also obtained associate degrees in Architectural Design/Engineering Technology and Computer-aided Drafting/Design. Derrick began his career on the west coast of the United States with Andersen Consulting and subsequently with Microsoft prior to moving to Jacksonville, Florida to be closer to his family. At the time of his death, Derrick was a Senior IT Manager with Florida Blue for over 11 years.
Derrick was a very caring person that consistently surprised others with his thoughtfulness. He was a very dedicated and detailed employee, enjoyed the outdoors, loved grilling and spending time with Anna. He developed a love of physical fitness and especially enjoyed jumping rope, running, and bicycling. One of his proudest accomplishments was completing the 1998 Marine Corps marathon. He also enjoyed sharing family photos and researching his father’s military history. He will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.
