Leo R. Mazzuchi
U.S. Army Veteran

TEWKSBURY: Leo R. Mazzuchi, age 74, a longtime resident of Tewksbury, passed away at Lowell General Hospital on Thursday, April 14, 2022.

He was the beloved husband of Catherine I. “Katie” (Burris) with whom he would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on May 25, 2022.

Born in Boston on December 29, 1947, he was the son of the late Leo J. Mazzuchi and the late Phyllis M. (Catenacci) Mazzuchi.

Leo and his family moved to Tewksbury from Boston when Leo was in seventh grade. He attended Tewksbury Junior High School and Tewksbury Memorial High School.

In 1968, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War era. He was awarded several decorations for his active-duty service including the National Defense Service Medal, the Expert M 14 Badge, and the Good Conduct Medal.

Leo worked for 27 years at the Charlestown Naval Shipyard and the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard until his retirement.

After retiring, he began working in the Maintenance Dept. for the Tewksbury School Department. For the past 23 years, he worked as a bus driver for the Tewksbury Transit Company.

In his spare time, he enjoyed planting his tomatoes and cucumbers and leaving them on his neighbor’s doorsteps for them to enjoy. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife, and Sandy and Charlie, to the Plainridge Park Casino in Plainville and Bally’s Twin River Casino in Rhode Island.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister, Susan (Mazzuchi) Stys and her husband Mark, of Stuart, FL: his sister-in-law, Sandra L. “Sandy” Stevens and her husband Charlie, who Leo loved dearly, of Tewksbury: his brother-in-law, William R. Burris, Jr. and his wife Judy, of Tewksbury: his sister-in-law, Diana Mazzuchi, of Brattleboro, VT: dear friend, Donna DeMaria, of Chelmsford: 15 nieces and nephews: 18 grandnieces and grandnephews: 5 great grandnieces and grandnephews.

Leo was the brother of the late, John J. Mazzuchi, Kenneth R. Mazzuchi and Barbara A. Mazzuchi.

Calling hours are Friday, April 22, from 4-7 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury (Family would appreciate visitors to wear mask). His funeral procession will begin on Saturday, April 23, at 10:30 a.m. followed by a graveside service at 11:30 a.m. at Tewksbury Cemetery, 172 East St., Tewksbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Tewksbury Community Pantry, 999 Whipple Road, Tewksbury, MA 01876.
