Brendan J. Flynn
Retired US Navy Veteran, MBTA mechanic and Boston Globe machinist
TEWKSBURY: Brendan J. Flynn, age 63, passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was the beloved husband of Dale F. (Kennedy) Cormier Flynn, with whom he shared 12 years of love.
Born in Boston on March 23, 1959, he was the son of Margaret T. (Cummings) Flynn, of Villages, FL and the late Owen Flynn.
Brendan was raised in Braintree and Dorchester and graduated from Blue Hills Regional High School in Canton.
During his high school years, he was a three-sport athlete playing football, hockey and hurling while at Blue Hills Regional.
In 1978, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Barbey. He was awarded several decorations for his active-duty service including the Navy Expeditionary Medal, the Navy Battle “E” award, and the Sea Service Ribbon.
Brendan was employed by the Boston Globe as a machinist for 25 years and as a mechanic by the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority for 10 years until his retirement in 2021.
He enjoyed fond memories of traveling to Ireland to visit family and work on the family farm.
Brendan loved riding his Harley Davidson “Street Glide” and was a member of the Roadrunners Motorcycle Club. In addition, he was a member of the Lynn Volunteer Yacht Club for over 25 years.
He was affectionately referred to as “Grampy” by his six granddaughters, who he truly adored and were his life.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his daughter, Meghan Pohl and her husband Matthew, of Randolph. He was the loving “Grampy” to Lianna, Madison, Olivia, Evelyn, Emma and Victoria Pohl, of Randolph. Brother of Mark Flynn, of Norton, Ann Dickinson, of Weymouth and Theresa Howley, of Villages, FL. Stepfather of Adam Cormier, of Tewksbury and Eric Cormier and his wife Jesscia, of New Ipswich, NH. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, May 3rd, from 5-7 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury, immediately followed by a prayer service to be held in the funeral home. Interment of his ashes will be Wednesday, May 4th, at 11 a.m. in the veteran's section of Tewksbury Cemetery, 172 East Street, Tewksbury.
