LACONIA --- Alan E. Thurston, 65, of Blueberry Lane, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, after an extended illness.
Alan was born on July 31, 1956, in Woodsville, NH, the son of the late Charles H. Thurston and Dorothy (Schauer) Thurston.
Alan grew up and attended school in Bradford, VT. He then worked for his father and the Town of Bradford for a period of time before becoming a self-employed logger working in the Bradford upper valley area. He married and, with an offer of work in the Lempster, NH, area, he moved his logging business and home. There he worked on various wood lots and made new and special friendships.
Alan had a special love for the woods. He had a fondness for dogs and one could most always be found in his truck on the job site.
In Alan’s spare time, he enjoyed playing his guitar and doing some backyard sugaring in the spring. Alan was in the process of developing a sugar place on his property in West Fairlee, VT.
Alan was involved in the recovery community and had received his 30 year coin. He spent a lot of time at Millie’s Place in Newport, NH, which is a gathering place for fellowship and mentoring. He helped mentor many people who came to Millie’s Place.
Alan is survived by his wife, Rosie; two brothers, John and his wife Bonnie of Bradford, VT, and Gary and his wife Carol of East Corinth, VT; two nephews, Kyle and his wife Hannah of NY, and Brian of MA; niece, Kate Dow and her husband Mike of NH; and four step-children, Yvonne, Joy, Michelle, and John. In addition to his parents, Alan was predeceased by a nephew, Ethan Thurston.
A Private Burial will be held in Bradford, VT.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022, from 12:00 to 3:00pm, at the Bradford Fire Station, 135 Carson Lane, Bradford, VT 05033.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alan’s memory to Millie’s Place, 45 John Stark Highway, Newport, NH 03773.
