Robert F. "Bob" Sheppard of Brockton passed away peacefully at his home in Plympton on Tuesday, April 12, 2022. He was 92.
Born and raised in Brockton, he was the beloved eldest son of the late Vivian Kittredge Sheppard and best friend to his younger brother, the late Richard Sheppard, whom he spoke with daily by phone. A proud Brocktonian and member of Brockton High School's Class of 1948, he raised his family in his hometown before retiring to Plympton to enjoy country living.
Robert served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, and was a Prisoner of War, tortured by the North Korean Communists, for nearly three years. Upon returning he was bestowed the Purple Heart. He worked for many years for General Dynamics as an electrical engineer at the Quincy Shipyard. Attending nights he earned a bachelor degree at Northeastern University. He later worked for the United States Postal Service, and while passionate about his work, he found more joy in travel, science fiction, sports, gourmet dining, especially seafood, and, of course the company his family.
Robert was the devoted father of Kathy Fisher, Melinda Sheppard and Jennifer Loftus, whom he supported and encouraged as much as he teased. As a grandparent, the loving “Papa” never missed a recital, game or performance by any of his five grandchildren: Tamra Fisher, Samuel Fisher, Jamie Loftus, Benjamin Loftus and Aaron Sheppard, his eldest grandchild, with whom he was particularly close,.
Services will be private and visiting hours will be respectfully omitted.
