Jose Luis Valdivieso Beltran, 37, of Medway died on April 10th after a long struggle with Huntington’s disease.
Born in Riobamba, Ecuador on January 2, 1985, the son of Maria Elena Beltran de Gluckler of Medway and the late Gustavo Patricio Valdivieso, and his stepfather Peter E. Gluckler, Jr., he had been a resident of Medway for the past 25 years.
Jose was a 2003 graduate of Medway High School. After completing his education, he enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 2011 following tours of duty in Afghanistan and Iraq with the 44th Expeditionary Signal Battalion. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service while assigned to Task Force Thunderbird during deployment to Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2008.
Jose was recognized as the New England Region’s Huntington’s Disease Society of America Person of the Year in 2014 for faithful and distinguished service to the United States Army and unwavering courage fighting Huntington’s Disease.
Jose enjoyed gatherings with his friends and family, travel, movies, and going out to eat. He was a loyal fan of the New England Patriots.
In addition to his mother and stepfather, he is survived by his brother Javier A. Valdivieso and his nephew Mateo L. Valdivieso of Franklin, MA. Jose was the brother of the late Patricio D. Valdivieso.
Calling hours will be held at the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com), 3 Barber Street, Medway, Massachusetts on Monday, April 18th, from 4-7 p.m.
His funeral will take place on Tuesday, April 19th at the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in St. Joseph’s Church at 10:30 a.m.
Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Medway immediately after the mass.
