Americo J. Sbardella, 90

Americo J. “Rico” Sbardella, age 90, a lifelong resident of Hyde Park, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 8, 2022 at St. Luke’s Hospital-Southcoast Health in New Bedford. He was the beloved husband of the late Jean P. (McCarron) Sbardella.
Born in Boston, MA on January 20, 1932, he was a loving son of the late Sossio and Filomena (Fallone) Sbardella.
Rico grew up in Hyde Park and was a 1949 graduate of Hyde Park High School. From 1951-1955, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy. Prior to retiring, he had worked for forty years as a painter and paperhanger and was also employed by the Boston Celtics for thirty years.
Mr. Sbardella was a communicant of Saint Pius X Church in Milton, where he also served as a collector. He loved spending time with his adoring family and socializing with friends on his daily trips to Joe’s Barber Shop in Hyde Park. His hobbies included bowling and he will always be remembered for having a “sweet tooth” for scratch tickets.
Rico's family would like to especially thank his nephew John Sbardella and his girlfriend Jane for their love and support and spending so much time with him.
He is survived by his devoted children: Paul Sbardella and his wife Michelle of North Carolina, Judi Mirka of Norton, Cheryl Bell and her husband Kenneth of Hyde Park, Stephen Sbardella and his partner-in-crime Bree Barletto of Roslindale and the late Doris Newbury. He was the cherished grandfather of Melissa, Paul, Christina, Kaitlyn, Stephanie, Nicole, Courtney, Darian, Brett, Thomas, Justyn, the late Robert and Shannon, and was the great grandfather of Shane, Brady, Patrick and Gavin. He was predeceased by 4 siblings and is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 19th at 10:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt Street (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial, along with military honors will follow at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.
Visiting hours are omitted and those wishing may remember Americo with a donation in his memory made to Alden Court Nursing Court, 389 Alden Road, Fairhaven, MA 02719.
