MATTHEWS, NC --- The family of Linda Joan Smith sadly announces her passing on Thursday, December 30, 2021, after a lengthy illness.
Linda was born on February 23, 1958, in Laconia, NH, the daughter of Robert E. Sr. and Lucille Garneau Smith.
She enjoyed a happy childhood on Cottage Street in Laconia, NH, with her parents, four siblings, and extended family. Linda was a 1976 graduate of Laconia High School and a standout athlete. Linda was a kind, gentle, and generous soul. She loved crafting of all kinds and made many personalized gifts for friends and family. She had very special relationships with each of her siblings.
Linda resided in Erie, PA, with her spouse, Claudia Zimmer, for more than twenty years. She retired early from Better Baked Goods in Northeast, PA, as a production supervisor. Linda and Claudia loved to travel and were avid sports fans. She was passionate about the New England teams and proudly wore her Patriots and the Boston Red Sox apparel, head to toe, for games.
When Claudia died in 2016, Linda moved to Matthews, NC, under the loving care of her brother Randy and his family until her death.
Linda is predeceased by her parents and wife. She is survived by her sister Deborah Newell (Dave) of Freedom, NH and Davenport, FL, her brothers Robert E. Jr. (Janet) of Dover, NH, Randall (Pam) of Matthews, NC, and Jeff (Tony) of Rehobath Beach, DE, nieces, Amanda Lessard of Penacook, NH, Samantha Smith of Matthews, NC, and Abigail Delgado of Los Angeles, CA, nephew Brad Smith of Dover, NH, several grandnieces, grandnephews and the extended Zimmer family of Erie, PA.
A Calling Hour will be held on Monday, April 11, 2022, from 8:30am-9:30am, in the Carriage House, at Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH.
Burial will immediately follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, in Laconia, NH.
