Eugene D. Robinson, age 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on April 3, 2022 at Holyoke Medical Center. He was born on August 4, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY, a son of the late Philip and Gertrude (Palmer) Robinson. Eugene served in the US Navy 6th Atlantic fleet, Squadron Three, Pensacola, Florida and Reykjavik, Iceland. He served during the Cold War and traveled to the Arctic Circle, Morocco, as well as in Portugal. He later worked as an electrical design engineer at Chicopee Electric Light, Robert Hall Engineers, University of Massachusetts Amherst Physical Plant, Reinhardt Associates and Alderman & MacNeish in West Springfield. He was an avid sports fan. His favorite teams to cheer for were the NY Mets and NY Jets. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Patricia (Urbanski) Robinson of South Hadley; 3 sons, Michael Robinson of Chicopee, Stephen Robinson of Northampton, & James Robinson and his wife Lisa of Chicopee; 2 daughters, Christine Gloster and her husband Jeffrey of Chicopee, and Susan Valadas and her husband Daniel of Ludlow; 1 brother Richard Robinson of Williston Park, NY. Beloved and admired “Poppy” of 9 grandchildren, Marie, John, Joseph, Kristie, Carly, Isabella, Daniel, Amelia, and Julia along with 3 great grandchildren, Michael, Adeline, and Mason. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, and extended family who will miss him dearly. He is predeceased by his daughter-in-law Ann Robinson and grandson Adam Benoit. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, April 10, 2022 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee, MA. A Funeral home service will be held on Monday, April 11, 2022 from 8:00 – 9:00 AM at the funeral home with prayers to be said at 9:00 AM. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery in Agawam, where military honors will be rendered.
