Norman Mello, 73, of Fairhaven, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2022 at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of Audrey D. (Sherman) Mello. Mr. Mello was born in New Bedford, son of the late Manuel B. and Laura (Bernardo) Mello and has proudly resided in Fairhaven since 1976. Prior to his retirement, he worked as both equipment operator and supervisor for the Fairhaven Highway Department. As well as a factory worker making windshield wiper blades and different steel components for Atlas Tack. Norman worked hard for what he had. He was sure of himself, motivated, and usually right about how to approach situations. Always reliable and kind sometimes even jolly and most times sarcastic. He was a historian and loved poetry even having one published. We will all miss him.
Survivors along with his wife include his son: Jarod , his niece who he loved like the daughter he never had: Holly Kaeterle, 2 brothers: Leonard B. Mello of FL and Paul G. Mello of N. Dartmouth, numerous other nieces and nephews he loved all of. He was the brother of the late Manuel "Russell" Mello and his twin who passed shortly after birth Ralph Mello.
Funeral service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Thursday, April 7, 2022 at the Kirby Funeral Home at 3:30 P.M.
Visitation will be Thursday, from 2-3:30 P.M., prior to the service.
Interment will be private.
