Obituary

Virginia M. Snowden, 87, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Sunday, April 3, 2022, at Palemon Gaskins Memorial Nursing Home in Ocilla, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at Central United Methodist Church in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Chris Ramsey and the Rev. B.J. Funk officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mrs. Snowden was born May 27, 1934, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late James “Chick” & Charlotte Jarchow Drexler. She was a 1952 graduate of Fitzgerald High School. Mrs. Snowden served as secretary for the Ben Hill County Board of Education for many years and was a master tree farmer. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association as well. She enjoyed crocheting and fishing as well as gardening and growing flowers. She was a member of the Green Thumb Garden Club. Family was very important to Mrs. Snowden and something she believed in, she greatly enjoyed the Snowden family reunions every year. Mrs. Snowden was a member of Central United Methodist Church where she was active in UMW Circle # 1, the Jesse Thompson Sunday School Class, served as treasurer of the UMW, and served on the Bereavement Committee.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: James E. “Buddy” & Karen Snowden of Fitzgerald, Brenda & Hulin Reeves, Jr. of Fitzgerald, and Linda & Bruce Eidson of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Jesse & Delana Snowden, Ben & Stephanie Snowden, Rita & Ron Mathis, Britton Robitzsch, Laura Eidson, and Brittany & Robby Wood; great-grandchildren: Jack Nicholson, B.J. Nicholson, Caitlin Snowden, Caison Snowden, Hayden Snowden, Peyton Snowden, and Ivey Jane Wood; and siblings: Bertha Davis Wright of Abbeville, Jim Drexler of Fitzgerald, Alice Drexler McDuffie of Tifton, Ed Drexler of Fitzgerald, Grace Caldwell of Newnan, and Johnny Drexler and his wife Sandra of Fitzgerald. Many nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, C.B. “Jim” Snowden; a grandson, Will Robitzsch; and a sister, Joan Drexler Brown.
