Stavri Bratja, 84, of Worcester passed away peacefully Saturday, April 2nd surrounded by his family.
His wife of 54 years, Elefteri (Kondakciu) Bratja died in 2021. He leaves two sons, Bledar Bratja and his wife, Arlinda of North Grafton and Vital Bratja of Worcester; two grandchildren, Darleene and Mason. He was predeceased by his brother Janaq and his sister Parashqevi.
Stavri was born in Kavaje, Albania, and studied medicine at the University of Tirana. After graduation, he worked for many years as a doctor at the hospital of Durres, Albania. He also worked as a director of the Sanitary Unit of Durres, and the chief doctor of the ambulatory center at the Seaport of Durres. After retirement, Stavri immigrated to the United States in 2004. He spent time reading books. Mr. Bratja enjoyed watching soccer and basketball games on television, and especially enjoyed the Celtics. Stavri would often spend time at Elm Park where he enjoyed strolling in nature or meeting with his friends. He loved family gatherings and enjoyed car rides with his wife, Elefteri. Stavri will be remembered as a loving husband, a very dedicated father, and a caring grandfather.
Calling hours are Wednesday, April 6th from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church, 535 Salisbury Street followed by his funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery.
