Obituary

Lovinia DeCoteau - Love as she was referred to by her family and friends was a kind soft spoken woman of quiet grace and strength.

Lovinia DeCoteau was the daughter pf the late Lillian St. Hill, a homemaker, and Donald Francois, a World War 2 veteran and farmer, in Bellegarden Tobago on January 18, 1927.

Lovinia was blessed with a large and loving family, and had two sisters Dora Francois, Matilda Francois Byron, and a brother Irvin Beckles all who have preceded her in death. She was married to Oscar DeCoteau for over 50 years, who has also preceded her in death. Although their marriage bore no children, she was a loving mother/grandmother/great grandmother to many.

Lovinia migrated to the United States of America in the early 1970,s and began working for Mr. Peter Gordon in one of his homes on Coffey Street, Dorchester. In the 1990,s those homes merged to Neponset Circle Nursing Home which later became Marina Bay Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Quincy where she worked until she retired in 2013.

Love was also known to sell Avon products for years, and even tried to keep up with her customers for the first couple of months while being at the rehab .... lol.

Love enjoyed traveling and cooking, but most importantly she loved the Lord. She was a long-standing member of St. Marks Episcopalian Church of Dorchester and served on the Alter and Woman's Guild until her health began to fail. Every Sunday after church Love visited with the sick, brought flowers from the church, and prayed for members and or friends she knew to be ailing. Even when she was physically unable, she would call and share a prayer of words of comfort.

She was a remarkable human being and would never know you were in need and not give you something. She would never let you leave her house empty handed and shared her every meal with her coworkers and friends. Love gave even when she didn't have to give.

Wherever she went she created a solid foundation or friendships. When times were difficult, she would lend a listening ear without judgment. Her love was infused in everything she did, and she never failed to put a smile on your face with one of her jokes.

1 Cor teaches us that love is patient, and kind and most of all never fails. Loninia portrayed that love and mothered many including Julia and myself and will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

Lovinia leaves to mourn her nieces Lynette, Bianca,Lystra, Janet, Kakel, Latoya, Candace; nephews Garth, Ancil; her cousins Shirley and Val; friends Auliane, Donna, Gail and many others.
