John Robert Dowd, a longtime Cape Cod resident, passed away unexpectedly at his Eastham home on November 16, 2021. He was 51.
Born in Salem, Mass. November 1, 1970 to James F. Dowd and Mary H. Collette of Peabody, he resided in the North Shore area and Boston until his late teens, when he moved to Provincetown.
Educated at Bard College, Simon's Rock in Great Barrington, he was an avid rock climber with his brother Jim. He then attended University of Massachusetts in Amherst and the University of Vermont studying Psychology and Mystic Arts. Always questioning the ethics of religion, he later studied astrology and tarot.
After many years of being a cook in various restaurants, he suffered a debilitating bike accident that compelled him to change careers. He became a fisherman, fishing out of New Bedford and Cape Cod. He bought his own boat during Covid in 2020 and sought out scallops, eventually converting his boat to do sea clams as well.
He is survived by his mother Mary Koukotos (Collette-Dowd), of Southport, ME, his sister-in-law Sharon 'Bo' Abrams, his niece Rebecca, and his nephew Treely of Gloucester. He also leaves his daughter, Lyla, of Lake Charles, LA.
There will be a celebration of his life on June 25th, 2022, from noon to 5:00 pm at the Harbor Hotel in Provincetown, MA.
