WALSH, STEPHEN M. of Roslindale, formerly of Dorchester, passed away from complications from cancer on March 28, 2022. Beloved husband of the late Mary Maureen (O’Sullivan) Walsh of Lispole, Ireland. After meeting the love of his life, Steve married Maureen in 1966 and enjoyed 29 years of marriage – including a 25th wedding anniversary in Hawaii.

Steve was the devoted father of Stephen Walsh of Kihei, Hawaii; Joseph Walsh and his wife Lynn of Needham; David Walsh and his wife Kristen of Plymouth; and Dennis Walsh and his wife Kimberly of Milton. Beloved Papa of Stephen Patrick, Daniel, Amanda, Sean, Matthew, Adrianna, and Emma. Great-grandfather of Peyton and Jocelyn.

Family was the center of Steve’s life. His greatest joy was spending time with his sons and grandchildren. He could often be found cheering on his grandchildren at their games or driving them to school. On Christmas morning, he would sneak into his sons’ homes before the kids were awake so that he could watch them open presents. He had a great sense of humor and a love for storytelling. He spent many happy hours laughing with his brothers as they told stories about growing up in Dorchester with their childhood friends, including Mike Norton.

Steve loved to travel. An avid sports fan, he would venture near and far for Boston College football and hockey games. He made many trips to Ireland to visit his cousins in Galway and his wife’s family in Kerry. In his later years, he enjoyed visiting his son in Hawaii every January.

Steve was predeceased by siblings Mary Machaby of Holbrook; Joseph Walsh of Boca Raton, FL; Michael Walsh of Alexandria, VA; Ann Walsh of Hingham; Sr. Barbara Joseph Walsh of Wellesley; and his twin brother Tom of West Roxbury. He also leaves sisters-in-law Pat Walsh of West Roxbury; Judy Walsh of Alexandria, VA; Bridie Mallon of Armagh, Northern Ireland; Noreen Janes of Jersey, Channel Islands; and brother-in-law John O’Sullivan and his wife Anne of Lispole, Ireland. Steve is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and loyal friends. He will be greatly missed. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Visiting Hours will be held at Gormley Funeral Home 2055 Centre St in West Roxbury on Thursday March 31st from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. Funeral from the funeral home on Friday, April 1st at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in Holy Name Church at 10 a.m. The Funeral Mass will be recorded and available for viewing on gormleyfuneral.com after 8pm.
