Eugene “Gene” D. Van Vort, 59, of Franklin died tragically on March 27 in an auto mobile accident in Vermont. He was the husband of Debra K. (Bennett) Van Vort for the past 31 years.
Born in the Bronx, New York, March 4, 1963, the son of the late Eugene C. and Mary (Laverty) Van Vort, Gene was raised in Yorktown Heights, New York and had lived in Franklin for the past 28 years.
He was a graduate of Ithaca College, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Finance and was also a member of the Ithaca “Bombers” football team. Gene then went on to receive his MBA at Northeastern University.
Gene had been the Managing Director of Asset Based Lending for TD Bank at the time of his death. He had worked in the banking and finance industry for all his working career.
Gene enjoyed fishing, boating, football and being in the company of his family and friends.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Paige R. Van Vort of Boston, Jordan T. Van Vort of Franklin and Brett A. Van Vort of Franklin.
He is also survived by his sisters, Jeanmarie Potvin of New York and Marianne Ging of North Carolina and several nieces and nephews.
A time of memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, April 3 in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main St. Franklin from 2-5 p.m.
