Obituary

HIRAM- Janet Carolyn Harmon, age 84, passed away on March 25, 2022, at Central Maine
Medical Center due to complications from pneumonia. She was born in Porter, Maine on
October 26, 1937, a daughter of the late Wilbur and Vyrene (Day) Lewis. Janet liked to
reminisce about her younger years. She would talk about how her family moved around a lot
due to her father being a woodsman, which meant a new school every year. Janet said it was a
happy childhood with her three brothers and that her parents were quite feisty.
Janet was a very accomplished, hard-working woman. At the age of 16 she married her late
husband Carl Harmon and they were blessed with four wonderful children, Daniel, Dennis, Joy
and Sherry. Janet earned her G.E.D. and went to work at General Electric. During this time, she
would become acquainted with Lois and Cliff Burnell who would become her lifelong friends.
Janet continued her education to become a nurse's aid, which she worked as for several years.
She enjoyed helping and taking care of others throughout her entire life. Eventually, Janet went
into business with her husband at C&J Harmon for thirty plus years doing everything from
painting, roofing, running electrical lines etc. Janet was a “Jack of all trades” and was always
looking for a new project.
In the evenings and on weekends Janet would sell House of Lloyd. She worked hard to earn
the opportunity to travel to places like Turkey, Hawaii and Alaska. She loved to get everyone in
her family souvenirs from her trips and tell them all about her experiences.
Janet enjoyed to stay active and for many years spent time on a bowling league. When her
children were grown Janet became a very avid golfer, even playing for the All-State team.
Janet's more leisurely activities included sewing, baking, reading, gardening and playing
scrabble.
Above all things Janet's greatest Joy in life was spending time with her family and friends. She
loved nothing more than being with her children and grandchildren during the holidays. Janet
would spend days making Halloween costumes, hours in the kitchen prepping meals and
making sure everyone felt cherished and loved.
For the last eighteen years she had the loving companionship of Eugene Harmon. Together they
traveled and enjoyed watching their families grow.
