Obituary

Deolinda Bettencourt, 70 of Lowell, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2022 peacefully after a long period of declining health at Lawrence General Hospital. She was the widow of the late Americo Bettencourt, Sr. whom passed away in 1996.

She was born in Pico, Azores, Portugal on May 5, 1951 and was a daughter of the late Maria Gloria DaSilva. She was raised in Pico, where she attended the area schools. In 1971, Deolinda relocated to the United States settling in Lowell’s Back Central Street neighborhood. She was a communicant of St. Anthony Church and member of the Portuguese American Civic League ‘the Red’s Club’, and the Portuguese American Center ‘the Blue’s Club’. When she wasn’t playing cards or attending feasts at the church, she loved spending time with her family traveling, especially taking day trips in the car.

She is survived by her children including, Eugene Bettencourt of Lowell, Americo Bettencourt, Jr. of Lowell, and Eugenia Bettencourt of Lowell; her grandchildren including, Melanie Bettencourt, Matthew Bettencourt, and James Bettencourt, all of Lowell. She is also survived by her nephew, James Foley of Lowell; close family friends who were like children to her, Lisa and Tony Vieira; her siblings including, Teresa Costa of Pico, Azores, Portugal, and Joaquim Costa of Pico, Azores, Portugal; and her closest friends, Fatima Vieira of Lowell, Dagmar Dias of Somerset and Sandra Dias, also of Somerset, and Teresa Silveira of Lowell.

On Sunday, April 3, 2022 all are welcome to attend her calling hours from 2 until 6 p.m. at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell, MA 978-458-6816.

Her funeral will begin on Monday morning at 9 a.m. at the funeral home followed by her funeral Mass at St. Anthony Church, 893 Central Street, Lowell at 10 a.m..
