Obituary

Margaret M. (Augustus) Bernier, 83, of Westport passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at St. Anne's Hospital after a brief illness. She was wife of the late Donald R. Bernier.

Born in Newport, RI, daughter of the late Frank and Mary M. (Oliver) Augustus, she had lived in Westport since 1970. She was a Communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport, where she served as president of the Women's Guild.. Prior to retirement, she was an L.P.N. at St. Anne's Hospital in Fall River and also worked in the cafeteria at the Westport Middle School. She was the proprietor of Fine Threads in Westport. Mrs. Bernier was a hard working individual and was very involved in the community working the election polls, serving on the Westport Democratic Committee and volunteering as a Girl Scout Leader. She enjoyed dancing, bowling, swimming and card playing. She was a dedicated mother who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, most of all her grandchildren.

Survivors include 3 sons: David A. Bernier and his wife Delores of Swansea, Michael A. Bernier and his companion Donna White of Westport and Paul D. Bernier and his wife Michelle of Westport; a daughter: Donna A. Bernier and her fiancé Robert Jacobs of Westport; a brother: Frank Augustus of Portsmouth, RI; 6 grandchildren: Bryant and his wife Karly, David, Maegan, Aidan, Renee and Rebecca; 4 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Thursday, March 31, 2022 from the Potter Funeral Home at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady Grace Church, Westport at 10:00 A.M.

Calling hours Wednesday 4 - 7 P.M.

Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
