Jack Harless, 93, passed from his earthly life to his heavenly glory on March 22, 2022. He was born on August 14, 1928 in Anderson, the son of Loron "Fuzzy" and Mabel (Leggett) Harless. His brothers, Mac and Ned Harless, and his sister Donna Eastman preceded him in death.
Jack and his wife of 71 years, Phyllis (Rushton) Harless, are the parents of three children, Jim (Vicki) Harless, Laura (Denny, deceased) Gloff and Kelly (Jim) Tumulty. They have nine grandchildren. Jim’s children are Amber Harless and Brandon (Ashley) Harless. Laura’s children are Amanda (Zach) McClain and Alycia Gloff. Kelly’s children are Justin (Kati) Hobbs, Jordan (Morgan) Hobbs, Brittney (Derrick) Wallace, Jaycee (Eric) Mey and Kaycee (Emily) Tumulty. He also had eleven great-grandchildren and one on the way.
Jack retired from the Anderson Herald Bulletin in 1989 where he was employed for thirty-nine years. He also served as an appointed member of the ACS school board for several years. He has been an active member of Bethany Christian Church for all of his christian life, where he was a member of the softball team, bowling team, and coached the high school basketball team. He also served as a deacon, an elder, a youth sponsor, a teacher, and sang in the choir. Through the years, he has enjoyed tennis, bowling, fishing, hunting, camping, farming, gardening, and mostly spending time with his family.
Jack has left a legacy of being a godly man, a wonderful husband and a splendid father and grandfather. Though his life on earth has ceased, his legacy of love lives on.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Bethany Christian Church, officiated by Bob Bell. Burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will also be held at Bethany Christian Church on Wednesday, from 11 AM until 1PM.
