Obituary

Jean C. (Woodford) Beswick of Bridgewater, MA and Fort Myers, FL died unexpectedly but peacefully on January 19, 2022 in Florida. Jean was the wife of the late Earl H. “Buddy” Beswick.

At age 17 Jean became the youngest member of the Boston City School of Nursing class of 1949. Jean rose to become the head nurse of pediatrics at Boston City Hospital, now Boston Medical Center. She went on to work at South Shore Hospital and was chosen as head nurse to open a medical surgical floor at the Cardinal Cushing General Hospital, now Good Samaritan Medical Center. She later became a supervisor and retired in 1992 as an in-service instructor.

Jean was a devoted wife, mother, and loving sister to her four siblings, as well as a doting grandmother and great-grandmother. An ardent patron and practitioner of the arts, she mastered needlepoint, quilting, ceramics, basket making, rug making, and painting among many. Jean loved skiing in Maine and playing Bocce in Florida. She was an avid collector of paperweights, and was a member of the Paperweights Collectors Association and New England Paperweight Collectors Association for many decades. Jean also had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening and creating a beautiful oasis in her yard for all to enjoy. At times her epic garden was featured on the Bridgewater Garden tour.

Jean traveled the world - first with Buddy and later with her daughter and her good friend Barbara Miles. In her later years, she loved to cruise and took 40 plus cruises. She also loved spending winters with her friends in Fort Myers. In recent months, her greatest desire was to return to Florida, which she accomplished on Monday January 17th, when she was reunited with long time Florida friends before her death on Wednesday.

Jean is survived by sister Helen McNeil of Rockland, daughter Attorney Diane J. Beswick and her partner Regina Krieger of Bridgewater, granddaughter Sarah E. Cashman and her partner Theodore Pierce of Lakeville, son Attorney Kevin T. Beswick and his wife Leanne of Roswell Georgia, grandson Morgan T. Beswick and his wife Melanie of Georgia and great grandson Dylan Beswick and great granddaughter Danielle Beswick and many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Arthur and Walter Woodford and Marion Flynn and sister-in-law of the late Richard McNeil.
