Obituary

Marjorie Eileen (Carr) Kelley, age 91, of Milton, formerly of Roslindale, died on Friday, March 18, 2022. Beloved daughter of Mark F. Carr of Moycullan, Co. Galway, Ireland, and Mary C. (McNamara) Carr of Hyde Park. Beloved wife of the late William J. Kelley. Loving mother of Mary Donovan and her husband Edward of Maryland, Francie Kelley and her husband Quentin Fennessy of Belmont, Patricia Kelley-Borchert and her husband Robert Borchert, Jr. of Connecticut, and Joan Shobbrook and her husband Timothy of Plymouth. Sister of the late Marie Carr, Anna Carr, Rev. Mark V. Carr, and Geraldine Carr. Grandmother of Maura Donovan, Eileen Donovan, Colleen Fennessy, Liam Fennessy (deceased), Alexandra Croom and her husband Patrick, Tara Borchert, Rosemary Shobbrook, and James Shobbrook. Great grandmother of Eleanor, Margaret, and Michael Croom.
Margie, as she was known, was raised in Jamacia Plain and attended the Francis Parkman School and Mission High School. While at Mission she met Bill Kelley, who became the great love of her life and husband for 64 years. She graduated from Emmanuel College in 1951 with a BA in English and began her career as an elementary school teacher in the Everett Public School System. She later earned an MEd from Boston College. Upon her marriage in 1957 she retired from teaching and began her life as a wife, mother of four daughters, and volunteer.
Margie was raised in St. Andrew’s Parish in Forest Hills and remained a dedicated parishioner as an adult. She was active in the Woman’s Club, Christmas bazaar committees, the school board, Girl Scouts, Monday night bingo, and Men’s Club socials and dances. She began volunteering at St. Andrew’s School while her daughters were students and remained so for many years after they graduated, bringing her teaching experience and expertise to bear. Later when St. Andrew’s closed, she remained an equally dedicated member of Sacred Heart Parish, Roslindale.
In the early 1980s Bill’s career sent them to Huizen, the Netherlands, where they lived and worked for two exciting years. Dozens of their family and friends visited them as they traveled all over Europe, creating memories and experiences that lasted a lifetime.
After returning from Europe Margie and Bill enjoyed retirement, visiting their children and grandchildren now living in four different states, enjoying frequent trips to their condo in Florida, and engaging in additional national and international travel. Margie also loved praying the Rosary, hosting parties, jigsaw puzzles, the Red Sox, champagne, Klondike Bars, class reunions, BC football, biographies, sewing, a good night’s sleep, the color aqua, creating beautiful photo albums, mischief making, and dressing her daughters alike for as long as she could get away with it. Above all she loved her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and dedicated her life to supporting their activities, keeping them happy, and making them laugh. She did this with an energy that her high school yearbook described as “vim, vigor, and vitality,” and with a constant smile on her face. You couldn’t find or wish for a better wife, mother, sister, or friend.
