Obituary

Tewksbury - Robert F. Demers of Tewksbury passed away after a long illness on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.He was the husband of Juan Alvarez, and they would have celebrated their 25th Anniversary next week.

     He was born on October 2, 1953, he was a son of the late Andrew M. and the late Virginia (Morris) Demers.  He grew up in Lowell and attended the local schools. After graduating high school he went on to UMass Lowell where obtained his Bachelor’s of Science of Psychology in 1976, and later to Rivier College for his Master of Science, Computer Information Systems, in 1994.

     He had a long career spanning many aspects of technology and database services, beginning in 1978 working as a Skills Training Director for the Medford C.E.T.A. Program, then to Wang Labs in Lowell as a programmer, he worked in data collection for the Lawrence Public Schools, and as a Senior Programmer and Analyst for Northeastern Mortgage Company, and First State Management Group.  He also worked as a consultant for Computer Management Science Inc, and as a systems manager for First State Management Group, as well as a Database Administrator  for Beazley USA, and for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the ANF Information Technology Division.  While working in technology he also worked as an adjunct professor for the University of Massachusetts, Lowell from 2001 until 2017.

    In his retirement from technology he obtained his real estate license, and worked as a real estates salesperson for several years.  He also served on the Tewksbury Board of Registrars, and also the Tewksbury Housing authority.  He was a very generous man, and whenever he could he would help his favorite charities including; Easterseals, Friends TPL, All Saints Church Food Pantry, TMHS PAC`, Parkinson's Foundation, American Cancer Society, Betterworld.org, Movember, The USO, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, NortheastAssocRealtors-School Supply Drive, Harbor To The Bay, Super Lincoln's 3rd Brain Tumor, Realogy Charitable Foundation, Tewksbury Community Pantry, American Cancer Society and of course Wreaths Across America.

     In addition to his husband Juan Alvarez of Tewksbury, he leaves his siblings; Andrew M. Demers and his wife Marlene of Hudson, FL, Andrea M. DeAngelis and her husband Michael DeAngelis of Lowell, Frederick J. Demers and his wife Donna Demers of Tyngsborough, Virginia M. Shay and her husband Richard of Dracut, Maryann Doster and her husband James of Tyngsboro, and James M. Demers and his wife Tammy of Lowell, he also leaves his sisters in law, Jane Murphy Demers of Dracut, and Fiona MacDonald of Tewksbury.  He is also survived by Nieces and Nephews: Edward Demers, Jennifer Demers, Karen Barry, Robert Silva, Sara Anderson, Thomas Doster, Christina Demers and Alexander Demers, as well as many friends.

     He was the brother of the late G. Phillip Demers, and Ruthann Demers
