Maria Dolores Martin (Fernandes), passed away following a lengthy period of declining health on Sunday, March 20, 2022. She was 86. She was the daughter of the late Jose Fernandes and Teresa De Jesus.
Maria was born and raised in Madeira, Portugal. She immigrated to Venezuela where she lived for many years before she reunited with her parents and settled in Woburn. She lost her husband Joao Alberto Goncalves at 37; and became a single parent of eight children half of them still in infancy age. She lived over 30 years in this country and proudly became a US citizen. Maria worked hard to give her family a new life in their new country. She worked for many years at the New England Rehab Hospital in Woburn, until she retired.
Mother of Joana Golan of Israel, late Guillermo Fernandes, Arlindo Fernandes of Billerica, Zacarias Fernandes of Lowell, late Luis Fernandes, Fernando Fernandes of Billerica, Tereza Fernandes of Venezuela, Antonio Fernandes of Methuen, and Marisol Goncalves of Wakefield. She loved her family and is survived by her sons, daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchild, siblings, and many many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to gather for visiting hours at the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., Woburn, Saturday, March 26th, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass celebrated in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 280 Main St., Woburn at 11:30 a.m. Services will conclude with burial at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
