Obituary

Jean Assonet Lamour, of Canton, MA passed away on March 9, 2022. Jean was a loving Father, Husband, and Friend. Jean was born in Petit-Goave Haiti on April 26, 1926. He emigrated to Montreal, Canada on August 15, 1980, to rejoin his sister, Ghislaine Seide and her family at the age of 54. They soon realized that there were more opportunities for him to come to the US and so he rejoined established cousins (Jean Vetiac & family and Georgette Lamour & family) who lived in Boston, Massachusetts. Upon arrival, he made it his life’s priority to bring his 10 children to the US in pursuit of the American Dream.
Within a period of 7 years, his dream came true when his 10 children rejoined him in Boston as permanent residents in a year span from 1987 – 1988. Jean dedicated his life to his family whether it was his children in Boston or the many relatives he left in Haiti. Jean worked two full-time jobs to provide for them and Jean was an awesome father. One of Jean’s great attributes was his commitment to instill a love of education in his children. He constantly reminded them that with education, the sky’s the limit based on his personal experiences when he felt hindered due to his lack of an advance education. Jean is also known as a very generous friend. He loved people and was always game for gathering of family and friends. He will always be remembered for his passion, selflessness, honesty, integrity, compassion, an abundant sense of humor, his love of food and his infectious laugh.
Jean is survived by his wife Madeleine Lamour, his brother Jean Sainmeres Lamour of Port au Prince, Haiti, his sister Ghislaine Seide of Montreal, Canada, his 10 children, Jowel and wife Marie Ange Lamour of Brockton, Neslie and wife Carine Lamour of Boston, Anne-Marie Lamour of Randolph, Bourmy and wife Maviard Lamour of Randolph, Hancy Lamour of Boston, Katia Lamour of Randolph, Magalie Lamour of Canton, Sedric Lamour of Pocono Summit, Pennsylvania, Carmelle Lamour of Randolph, Emmanuel and wife Yeshi Lamour of Canton.
