Obituary

Patricia A. (Fitzgerald) Gibbons passed away at home on March 18, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Her husband William M. Gibbons predeceased her in 2018. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Patrick and Helen (Walsh) Fitzgerald who were both born in County Waterford, Ireland.

Pat was a devoted mother to eight children and their spouses: William P. Gibbons (Lisa), Patricia M. Haylon (Timothy), Mary-Ellen Main (Roy), Kathleen M. Trainor (William), Thomas F. Gibbons (Amanda), Elizabeth M. Delaire (Alvin) and Paula M. Kelley (Timothy). Her daughter Anne-Marie M. Gibbons predeceased her at the age of 7. She was blessed with twenty-two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Pat was a loving sister to Kathleen Keville, Helen Fitzgerald and Paula Murtaugh (Michael), sister-in-law to Ruth Gibbons and aunt to many nieces and nephews.

She was also predeceased by her infant grandson Tomás Main, sister Ann Marie Daly, brother Thomas Fitzgerald, her father-in-law and mother-in-law Thomas and Gladys Gibbons, brothers-in-laws Joseph Daly, William Keville and Thomas Gibbons and sister-in-law Mary-Ann (Gibbons) Sauger and also her life-long friend, Betty Ann.

Patricia grew up in a loving Catholic family. Her upbringing instilled in her a gracious, thoughtful spirit and a deep faith that she embodied every day of her life. She graduated from St. Peter’s High School, Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing and Worcester State University. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Worcester City Hospital. She was a devout member of Christ the King Parish.

Pat will be remembered for her genuine dedication to her faith, family and friends. She lived her Catholic faith with strength, humility and compassion. These traits are a guiding beacon to her greatest legacy, her family, whom she loved dearly.

Calling hours are Tuesday, March 22 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester. The funeral Mass of the Resurrection is Wednesday, March 23 at 11:00 a.m. in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant Street, Worcester (Masks requested). Father Richard Trainor is the principal celebrant. The Rite of Christian burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery.
