Dorothy M. Peracchi passed away peacefully at the North End Rehabilitation and Nursing Center of Boston. She was 80. Born and raised in Somerville she was the beloved daughter of the late John and Mary (Grignaffini) Peracchi.
Dorothy enjoyed a teaching career which spanned over 40 years. As a young woman she earned her teaching degree at Salem State College. For several years she lived and taught in Europe on US military bases in Italy and Germany. That experience not only strengthened her love of teaching but also opened up to her a wonderful world of travelling. Throughout her life, Dotty traveled the world with family and friends. She saw Europe from one end to the other, including Soviet Russia. Her years of travel also brought her to Africa, China, Japan and all over the United States. Dot settled back home after her years teaching in Europe and lived many years in Arlington until settling recently in Revere. She returned to Salem State to earn her Master’s Degree. She taught for many years in the Somerville School System at the elementary level and as a reading specialist. Dot was dedicated to her family and hosted her whole family at Long Beach in Rockport each summer. She always looked for towards cooking for her family and friends.
Dorothy was a devoted sister to the late Louis Peracchi and his wife Evelyn, and Charles Peracchi and his surviving wife Dorothy. She was a loving aunt to John Peracchi, Carla Tassinari, Diane Ryan, Paula Terrio, Laura Falconeiri and Christopher Peracchi. She also leaves many dear great nieces and nephews. Dorothy is also survived by her loving best friend Angela Squitieri.
Dorothy’s funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Thursday, March 24th at 10 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Raphael Church, 512 High Street, Medford, at 11 AM. Services will conclude with burial at St. Michael Cemetery, Boston.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family at the funeral home on Wednesday, 4 - 8 PM.
