John “Sean” Costello of Needham and Falmouth entered eternal rest on March 16, 2022 at the age of 87 surrounded by his loving family in his home in Needham. John was the cherished husband of Ellen (nee Carr) with whom he shared 3 children. He was the beloved father of Margaret Costello of Newton, Caroline Costello of Westwood, and Sean Costello of Dedham. He was the devoted grandfather of Brianna Cataldo, Michael Costello, Alison Costello, Olivia Costello, and James Costello.
John was predeceased by his parents Padraig and Margaret (Fenton) O’Coisdealbha brothers Michael, Joseph, Martin, and sister Maura Heanue. He is survived by his dear brothers Padraig, Thomas, and Colin, of London, sister Bridge Caine of Sligo, Ireland, and brother Peader of Spiddal, County Galway. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in the United States, Ireland, and England.
John was born in Carraroe, Galway. He immigrated to Boston in 1957. He met his wife Ellen in the late 1950’s and they enjoyed 61 years of marriage. He was a proud union carpenter, a member of Local 40. The last 22 years of his career he worked at the Schepens Eye Research Institute. He made many friends and always said this was his favorite job.
John was the quintessential Irishman. He had an amazing sense of humor and a love for storytelling. He was an avid fisherman most of his life. He enjoyed above all spending time with his family especially his beloved grandchildren.
John was a member of the Irish Social Club, Hibernian Club of Watertown, The Irish Cultural Center, and the Norwood Irish Music Club
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours on Monday March 21 from 4-8pm at the Gormley Funeral Home 2055 Centre St., West Roxbury. Funeral from the funeral home on Tuesday March 22 at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Theresa of Avila Church 2078 Centre St. West Roxbury at 10am.
