Obituary

GORHAM- Patricia Libby passed away peacefully on March 15th, 2022 with her family by her side. Pat was born September 16, 1943, the daughter of Clayton and Doris (Littlefield) Norberg. Pat grew up in Gorham with her five siblings (Clayton Jr., Forrest, David, Janice, and Bruce).

Pat attended Gorham Schools where her favorite class was Future Homemakers of America. After high school, Pat married the love of her life, William Leroy Libby Sr., and they settled down in Portland. She became a proud & doting mother to their four children; William Jr., Scott, Susie & Wendy.

There was nothing more important to her than being a mother to her children, and looking after her loved ones and neighbors. Not only was Pat a mother to her own children, she was also a mother to everyone else’s kids too. The door to Pat’s house was always open to nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends who wanted to drop in, have dinner, or just needed a place to stay for awhile. She was always thinking of others and looking out for their needs. Anyone who truly knew Pat will tell you how she had a heart of gold.

Pat was also a devout Christian and follower of Jesus Christ. Her unshakable faith carried her through all of the challenges she faced during her lifetime; including the loss of her beloved husband in 1989, the passing of her son Scott due to COVID-19 in 2021, and being diagnosed with cancer later that year. Pat faced her diagnosis with utmost courage and leaned into her faith even more during her final days. She told those closest to her that she was placing herself in God’s hands and there’s no challenge that God won’t carry you through.

Pat is predeceased by her parents Clayton and Doris, her husband William Sr., her brothers Forrest and Clayton Norberg, and her son Scott Libby. She is survived by her three children, William Libby Jr. and his wife Donna, Susan Melcher and her husband Scott, and Wendy LaPierre and her husband Philip; her siblings, Janice Connors, David Norberg, and Bruce Norberg; her nine grandchildren, Nick, Kelcie, and Brittney Libby, Heather Musgrove, William Libby, Ryan, Heather, and Sarah Melcher, and Philip LaPierre; four great grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Pat will be honored with a celebration of life gathering at the Amvets Hall located at 148 North Road in Yarmouth on Friday March 25, 2022 at 4 p.m. A burial service will be held later this spring at Blanchard Cemetery in Falmouth. In lieu of flowers, please perform a random act of kindness and think of Pat as you do it. Memories and condolences can be expressed at https://www.mainefuneral.com/
