SPRINGFIELD - John C. Taylor, Sr., 76, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, March 13, 2022. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on October 16, 1945, a beloved son of the late George F. Taylor and Gertrude I. (Bates) Taylor Scavatto. He was raised in the North End section of Springfield, graduated from Springfield Trade High School and later moved to the Hungry Hill section of Springfield where he lived the remainder of his life. He was employed as an Operations Manager at the former Frank Paper Company, which later was Perkins Paper Company in Springfield. He later worked at Ampad in Holyoke before co-owning JT's Koffee Kup Cafe in Holyoke with his son, JT which they operated for several years. He was a member of the Marconi Club in Springfield and the Chicopee Lodge of Elks 1849. He also ran the track crew for many years at the former Riverside Speedway in Agawam. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and soul mate, Mary E. "Betty" (Nickerson) Taylor who was Called Home on December 20, 2019. They were married on May 21, 1966 at the former Liberty Methodist Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 53 years of happiness together. He leaves his two loving children, John C. "JT" Taylor, Jr. and his wife, Angela, of Ludlow and Carol I. Bardwell and her husband, Jon, of Hampton Beach, NH; his four cherished grandchildren, Stephanie, Daniel and Joseph Taylor and Michael Bardwell; his three cherished great grandchildren, Alicia Goncalves, Joao "JJ" Goncalves and Abel Taylor; his two dear sisters-in-law, Barbara Taylor of Norwich, CT and Maureen A. "Moe" (Aberdale) Nickerson of Springfield; his three dear nieces; his dear nephew; and his numerous friends and extended members of the Taylor and Nickerson families. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his loving step father, Joseph Scavatto; his dear brother, Robert Taylor; and his dear brother in law, Richard "Rick" Nickerson. His relatives and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours on Saturday, March 19, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon followed by a 12 p.m. Celebration of Life Service at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107.
