Obituary

With the deepest sorrow, we announce that Andrew J. Ganhao, age 33, our most beloved son, brother, family member and friend, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 8, 2022.

Those who knew Andrew, even but for a brief time, lost a special person in their lives.

Andrew will be missed every day by his mom, Paula (Santos) Young and his dad, Philip M. Young, Jr.

He is survived by his maternal grandparents: Jose C. Ganhao and his wife Lydia and Maria I. Santos, all of Ludlow, MA, and his paternal grandfather: Philip M. Young, Sr. of Newport, RI. He was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Frances M. Young.

He is also survived by his four siblings, Adam Morales and his wife Katie, Frankie Young, Brandon Young and his wife Nikita, and Jordan Young; his two nieces; and his two nephews. There are so many family and friends that we know that Andrew's absence will forever leave a void. And though we can't acknowledge all of you by name, you know who you are.

Lastly, and certainly not the least, Andrew is survived by his beloved cat, Jax. No matter the circumstances or situation, Jax and Andrew were inseparable. Jax will remain in the family with Andrew's mom and dad.

Andrew had a kind heart and was truly passionate and deeply committed to coaching and teaching basketball. He was the proprietor and owner of AG - Achieve Greatness, which he utilized to continue to teach and uplift young men and women about basketball and life. It was something that he took great pride in and, despite the usual challenges that face new businesses, he was able to establish a clientele even during the pandemic. When he was determined to do something, he went about the task with all his heart. He was an avid collector of sports cards and memorabilia. At a young age, Andrew adopted his favorite football team, his beloved New York Jets and remained a fan even when they weren't so good. Andrew enjoyed watching basketball, football and baseball as well as attending a game every so often. He also enjoyed working out and staying fit.

Andrew was born on October 20, 1988, in Springfield, MA at Bay State Medical Center. He grew up in the western Massachusetts area until his family moved to New Bedford in 2000. Andrew graduated from Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational-Technical High School in 2007 and continued his education at Bristol Community College.

For my wife and I, death leaves a heartache no one can heal but love leaves a memory that no one can steal. You will be missed but never forgotten Andrew...

A memorial service, celebrating Andrew's life, will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 9:30am at the Christian Fellowship Center, 822 Church St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. For online guestbook, visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
