Dateline: Mansfield, MA
Anne Teresa Deasy, 96, of Mansfield, MA, formerly of Bridgewater, MA died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, March 12, 2022. She was predeceased by her husband, John.
Anne was born in Portsmouth, NH, the daughter of the late Harry and Katherine (Cronin) Melker. Growing up in a Navy family, Anne lived in many places, but Portsmouth, NH was always her hometown.
Her early life was dedicated to teaching. After earning her Bachelor’s Degree at Keene State College in 1947, Anne taught in public elementary schools before continuing her education at Boston University, earning a Master’s Degree in 1954. At BU, Anne met John Deasy. In 1959 the two were married, beginning a 53-year marriage rooted in deep love and respect. The couple settled in Bridgewater, MA, where Anne devoted herself to raising her family and volunteered in a number of civic and religious organizations, often focused on her interest in child development and education. When her kids were grown, Anne returned to her passion for education, serving as a Librarian in the Children’s Room at Bridgewater Public Library.
Anne loved to travel. She took her first cross-country trip in 1930, and for the rest of her life, she continued to travel nationally and internationally. For Anne, the best part of traveling was meeting new people, hearing their stories, and experiencing their cultures. People enjoyed talking with Anne because she was a kind soul, with a gentle personality, and a good sense of humor. Even with all of her traveling, her favorite spot in the world was at home, surrounded by her friends and family, whom she loved most of all.
Anne leaves behind three children: John (Maria) of Arlington, VA; Michael of Leominster, MA; and William (Catherine) of Mansfield, MA. She also leaves behind six beautiful grandchildren: Anna, Tim, Matt, Mike, Kevin, and Kate. In addition to her husband, Anne was predeceased by her brother, Howard Melker, of Fall River, Massachusetts, brothers-in-law Robert Deasy and Richard Deasy, sisters-in-law Mary Melker, Louise Deasy, Rosalind Deasy, and Delores Deasy.
