The life of Ms. Hermanie Fleurant nee Descartes (Nanie)
Our beloved Hermanie Descartes transitioned peacefully on March 9th, 2022
Hermanie Descartes was born in La Romana, Santo Domingo on 10/20/1943 to parents, Euvanie Hercules and Saint Armand Descartes. When she was 10 years old, the family relocated to Jacmel, Haiti in search of new opportunities butt things did not go as planned; after the passing of her beloved father, Nanie moved to Port-Au-Prince to seek employment to help support her family. She remained in Port-Au-Prince until after the birth of her first child. At the tender age of 27, she moved to St. Maarten NA where she met her late husband and gave birth to two more children. Nanie eventually immigrated to the United States and settled in New York City where she gave birth to her last child. After her early retirement in 1994, she made her final move to Boston, MA.
Nanie was very family and goal driven. She often worked two to three jobs at a time in order to support herself and her loved ones. Over the years she held several positions but her most noted was as a Chef at Jezebel’s, the famous soul food restaurant in Manhattan where she made some lifelong friendships.
By this time her family had grown to include a Husband, Stenio (deceased) and 4 children: Bettie, Pascale, Robert and Sharen. She also has 8 grandchildren and numerous Nieces and Nephews.
Nanie also loved and cared for 5 stepchildren: Jonathan, Eddie-Paul, Ghetro, Ancelot and Ruth Noteworthy mentions are her favorite cousins who have also been her longtime friends, Damane Pierre-Louis and Mrs. Lucon Cheri.
In addition, Nanie would not have been able to do life without the love and support of her Church family especially sister’s Guerda, Esther and Nelta. In addition, her neighbors Jacqueline, Ms. Sherley, Ms. Ming, Nicole and Camille.
Nanie was well-loved and respected by all who met her. We pray we didn’t leave anyone out but believe us it was not intentional. We thank you for coming out today to celebrate the life of this extraordinary woman. She was a force to be reckoned with and her faith brought her this far. We thank God that her soul is now at rest.
