Sam Graham, 91, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 8, 2022.
Born on September 3, 1930 in Cottonwood, Alabama, he was the son of the late Frank and Maebell Graham. He was the husband of the late Delores P. (Gibbs) Graham.
Sam graduated from Jackson County Training School in Marianna, Florida, before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in many parts of the world, including Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Germany and France. He served for 20 years before retiring at the rank of Staff Sergeant in 1968. After the Army, Sam worked for State Street Bank in Boston as a Senior Computer Operator. While living in New Bedford, Sam served on the Board of Directors for the NAACP, the New Bedford Chamber of Commerce, YMCA, United Front Homes, and the Vet Center Advisory Committee. He was awarded the Black Achievers Award and the New Bedford Chamber of Commerce Small Business Person of the Year Award. He lived in Washington DC for 6 years before moving to Jacksonville, FL.
Survivors include his daughter, Cheryl Booker; his siblings, Jonathan Graham, Billy Ray Graham, and Delaney Graham; his grandchildren, Jennifer Booker, James Graham-Richardson, Desiree Graham-Richardson, and Margarita Graham; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He is predeceased by his children, Maria Graham, and Jeffery Graham; and his siblings, Frank, Tom, Gracie, and Lee Morris Graham.
His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at 11:30 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford followed by burial in Rural Cemetery. Guests are invited to arrive at the Funeral Home for 11 AM. His visitation will be on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 from 5-7 PM.
