BOYLSTON - Robert Douglas Haddon, 90, passed away at home after an illness, on March 11, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born on September 27, 1931, in Cowan, TN, son of the late Robert H. and Mae Haddon. He leaves his devoted wife of 65 years, Ruth Bilazarian Haddon. Also, he leaves his daughter, Athena Haddon, of Worcester, and his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Lisa Haddon, of Shrewsbury. He also leaves his cherished grandchildren: Brendon Haddon, USAF, and his wife Tiara, Kelsey Haddon and her companion Cory Loomer as well as Alex Haddon and Jillian Haddon. Bob felt his grandkids were growing way too fast but was so proud of their accomplishments and the fine young adults they’ve become. Bob also leaves his dog, Mosley who was by his side until the end.
He leaves his brother-law and his wife, Seth and Tina Bilazarian of Boylston, sister-in-law and her husband, Gladys and Nerses Zeytoonian of Watertown, as well as many nieces, nephews and relatives. He was predeceased by his sister, Sandra McDonald and his brother in-law Harry Bilazarian.
Bob lived in Columbus, Ohio and then in Washington D.C. where he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and where he met and married his wife, Ruth. Following their marriage, Bob was reassigned to the staff of the Supreme Allied Commander of NATO in Paris, France, which he and Ruth truly enjoyed and where their two children were born. He also served during the Vietnam war, stationed in Thailand, trained in helicopter mechanics, participated in the Jolly Green Giants Rescue Squadron and ended his military career in 1974 after twenty years of service.
Upon his discharge from the U.S. Air Force, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Northborough, MA, for 25 years, retiring in 1999. He was a Life Member of the Washington, D.C. Masons as well as a former member of the Boylston Lions Club and the Northborough American Legion Post. He enjoyed family gatherings, felt lucky to have great friends and neighbors, happily accomplished his yard work on his John Deere and loved puttering around in his workshop where friends were always invited for a cold drink. He also loved golfing in his earlier years, playing cards with friends as well as participating in the local “town meetings”. Bob had a remarkable memory for world history, but he will be remembered most for his great sense of humor and his ability to tell amusing and lively tales, repeatedly! Aging and declining health forced Bob and Ruth to sell the home and property they loved in Boylston and move, August 2021, to the Briarwood Assisted Living Residence.
Family and friends are invited to visitation from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 18, 2022 in Nordgren Funeral Home, 300 Lincoln St., Worcester, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home. A celebration of Bob’s life at Cyprian Keyes Golf Club, Boylston will follow. In lieu of flowers and in his memory, contributions may be made to Boylston Lions Club, PO Box 50, Boylston, MA 01505, or to Veterans, Inc., 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA.
