Obituary

Wyatt "Heflin" Daniel, Jr. passed away in Seattle, Washington March 6, 2022, at age 63. A graveside funeral service will be held for Mr. Daniel at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2022, at Oak Ridge Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest. The Rev. Chip Grantham will officiate.

Heflin was the youngest of the four children of Charlotte Elizabeth Walton Daniel. He is survived by his brother Joe Thrash, his sister Betsy Thrash Thompson and his sister Christie Gaskins Vance and numerous nieces and nephews.

Heflin grew up in Newnan, Georgia, graduating from high school there. Many, many summers he spent in Tifton with Bill and Christie Vance and their six children, and he considered these summers some of his happiest days.

He received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in English from Auburn University.

He lived in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, in Boulder, Colorado, and in Seattle, Washington. When he and Karah married, they lived in Chapel Hill near her family and later moved to Seattle, she as a therapist and he as a master carpenter. Karah is a registered nurse and lives in Chapel Hill today.

Heflin loved animals all of his life, raising Collies during his childhood, and later having two cats whom he cared for at the time of his death. Happily, these two have already been adopted by a loving family in Seattle.

Heflin pursued many interests during his life. He was one of the lucky people in this world who was able to do all he wanted to do, and mostly, only what he wanted to do.

As we return Heflin to Georgia soil, he is beside his mother, and amidst a host of relatives. Remember that Heflin was a beloved son, brother, husband, and friend. Look around you at the names: Walton, Hollingsworth, Dickinson, Short…..they and all their families have left many legacies in our community. Heflin is now back with his Georgia family.

We pray God’s blessings on Heflin, who had a strict moral code differentiating right and wrong, and consistently, all of his life, followed it. He was a good man! So let us not weep for Heflin. We all know there are no tear in Heaven.
